Carers Gateway Referrals

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it also comes with its challenges. Whether you're new to caring or have been a carer for some time, our Carers Gateway counselling service is here to support you.

The Carers Gateway service connects carers with the resources, support, and services you need to help you in your caring role.

Healing is a journey and every step forward counts – let us walk with you.

How It Works

The Carers Gateway Referral Service is designed to make your life easier by providing a single point of access to a wide range of services. Here’s how you can access the support you need:

Contact Them Start by getting in touch with the Carers Gateway on 1800 422 737 to chat to a service provider or visit carergateway.gov.au. Their friendly team is here to listen and understand your needs.

Assessment They will conduct a brief assessment to identify the types of support that could benefit you and the person you care for. This might include respite care, counselling, peer support, financial assistance, or information and advice. Central Coast Trauma Centre provides the counselling to support you on your caring journey.

Referral Based on your needs, they will connect you with appropriate services and organisations. They can make referrals for both immediate support and long-term assistance.

Follow-Up The team will follow up with you to ensure the services have met your needs and to offer further assistance if required.

Counseling and Emotional Support: Access to professional counseling services to help you manage stress, anxiety, and the emotional demands of caring.

Respite Care: Opportunities for temporary relief from your caregiving responsibilities, allowing you to rest and recharge.

Skills and Training: Workshops and resources to equip you with the skills needed for caregiving and to improve your confidence in your role.

Peer Support: Connection with other carers through support groups and forums, providing a space to share experiences and advice.

BJ has an extensive knowledge of trauma and it's impacts on the brain and the body. I had not heard of brainspotting prior to making my first appointment, and honestly I was sceptical of it, but needed help with trauma.  BJ created a safe and supportive environment that allowed me to explore my thoughts and feelings without judgment, or trying to intellectualise them. What impressed me the most was the tangible impact of brainspotting. It is so different to other kinds of therapy, you don't sit and talk about traumatic events, it lets your brain process it. After a few sessions things got a bit better. Now 6 months in and my ability to deal with triggers and to emotionally regulate has improved beyond measure, am very grateful.
